Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #LVIA-B8NRY6 have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Upon inspection of the food prep area, there were large paint pieces, peeling off the ceiling and the baseboard material along the floors were starting to come off the wall in various areas.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the community care facility is in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: Upon inspection of the entrance area, there were sections of cubbies that were not mounted to the walls that pose a tipping hazard to the children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the furniture is sturdy and free from hazards.

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,
Observation: Upon review of the staff records, one staff did not have her certificate verified by the Licensee
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the staff files are complete

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated Oct 29,2019 there were 15 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee will provide a written response to Licensing. Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
