Introduction

An unscheduled/scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.
Licensing arrived to complete the inspection however the licensee was in the process of exiting for purpose of school transfer, licensing arranged to return.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Observed products such as tools and solvents stored within the garage near point of entry to the home, this area is accessed by the children due to transportation. one shelf with equipment stored within reduces the width of children's path of travel , discussed solutions such as creating a barrier to restrict access to the 2nd portion of the garage.
Cords located in the family room hanging fown from fireplace and at the back potion of the couch present risk of injury if accessed by children.
Corrective Action(s): please ensure children do not have access to items which may be hazardous to their health and or safety.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: At arrival children in the process of attending preschool , Lo returned to complete the inspection as requested by the licensee. children placed down for rest within the nap area equipped with an auditory and visual monitor. Children could be seen sitting on their mats and playing as they had not yet fallen asleep. Discussed this practice to which monitors would be used once children had fallen asleep. Licensee shared that not all children nap and that it would be a challenge to stay within the room with children who may not require rest. Some solutions discussed based on the layout of the home and rooms in close proximity of the nap area.
Corrective Action(s): please provide a Care and Supervision Policy to outline how you will carry out aspects of programming while providing supervision during times such as nap time.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated Dec 12, 2018 there were 3 children and the licensee present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
The licensee to provide within the written response a playground policy outlining equipment not used by the daycare children as a slide has been added to the upper level to which the licensee stated children will have no access.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
