Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance with the exception of Medication, Programming and Records and Reporting.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection -
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: The facility recently renovated the outdoor playground and several items were identified during the inspection as potential hazards for the children using the space. These items include;
- exposed nails/screws accessible at the children's level in the garden area
- the tunnel mound has turf material on top that has come loose in several areas posing tripping hazards
- the bike path has exposed metal wire mesh assessable at the children's level
- a tire swing attached to a tree does not have sufficient clearance for children to use it
- the tunnel slide is not secure and is positioned at the bottom right beside a wooden structure which does not allow for enough clearance for children exiting the slide
- resilient surfacing under the swings, monkey bars and base of the slide does not have sufficient depth to protect the children using the equipment
The LO reviewed all of these items during the inspection with the facility manager. The manager communicated during the inspection that these items would be made inaccessible until corrected.
This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Date to be Corrected: July 3, 2020
