Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: Upon inspection of the outdoor play materials, the rubber had cracked off of the metal cables on the climber; the balancing beam had two missing bolts and was unsteady and the plastic covers that were to cover the bolts were half cracked leaving the other hard plastic attached to the climber, all of which pose a safety risk to the children in care.This is a repeat contravention.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure play equipment accessible to the children are free from hazards and are in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11480 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: Upon inspection of the outdoor playground, the slide that was over 6 feet in height had minimal resilient surfacing. the hard dirt ground was observed amongst the pea gravel.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure equipment heights and resilient surfacing promotes the health and safety of persons in care.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated November 12, 2019 there were 13 children and 4 staff present. Licensee stated that there are approx. 16 children registered in the program. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee will provide Licensing with a written response.Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
