Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13030 - CCLR s.22(3) - A licensee must display a copy of the fire drill system in a prominent place in the community care facility.
Observation: Facility did not have a copy of the fire drill system displayed in a prominent place. The delegated staff explained that the facility has been recently painted and has not been put back up.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a copy of the fire drill system is displayed in a prominent place in the community care facility.

MEDICATION: 16020 - CCLR s.53(1)(b) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.
Observation: Medicine required in a care plan not accessible to employees.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure if a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication that is readily accessible to employees.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19260 - CCLR s.58(2)(b) - The licensee must (b) review the care plan at least once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.

Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that care plans are reviewed atleast once each year with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent

Comments

At this inspection there were 48 children, 9 staff and a practicum student present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to licensing by June 12, 2023 stating how you have addressed the above noted contraventions. Licensing will review the response.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following was discussed/reviewed with the staff:
- Replenishing first aid kits
- Absent employees
- Care plans
The contents of this report was reviewed with the delegated staff and a copy wil be emailed to the facility.
