Introduction

An unscheduled/scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the routine inspection it was observed that the water temperature was 58 degrees Celsius. The staff was observed helping children wash their hands and monitoring the use of water. During the routine inspection the hot water was turned off.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the water temperature of water is heated to no more than 49 degrees Celsius.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: During the routine inspection it was observed that some of the food in the emergency supply kit was expired.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that you have enough supplies to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the routine inspection 7 children's files were reviewed and 3 children's files were missing a date of enrollment.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's file are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated June 27, 2023 there were 13 children, 3 staff and manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:

· Regarding emergency supplies in the Emergency Supply Kit
· Temporary Placements and Exemptions
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water – flushing the pipes to remove any impurities before using the drinking water

Valid CRC, confirmed expiry date with licensee.
