PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection the following was observed in the outdoor play area:
-cans of sealed chemicals such as: paint, waterproof sealant and acrylic adhesive.
-a saw and a ladder
-a sharp BBQ brush
-paint rollers and brushes
In discussion with the licensee she stated that the children do not play in the area where the hazardous items are placed. Licensing noted that these items were still accessable to the childrne in care and could cause potential poisoning, falling hazard and cutting hazards to the children in care. Options for the storage of these items were discussed. The licensee will remove these items. The licensee will provide active supervision in the area until the items are removed.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that are hazardous to the health and safety of the children in care.

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,
Observation: Licensing reviewed two out of two staff records. Two staff records were missing veriification of ECE certificates. This is a repeat contravention. This was corrected during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure information verifying an ECE certificate is in the staff records.

STAFFING: 12430 - CCLR s.56(1)(b) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].
Observation: During the inspection two staff records of two were reviewed. One staff record had a criminal record check (CRC) but this was completed by the police department not the criminal record review board. The licensee will contact the CRC review board today.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure criminal record checks are completed by the provincial criminal record review board
