Nail services:
- Pedicure blades are single use and discarded into a sharps container (corrected: sharps container available in room) - good.
- High level disinfectant (CS20) is available for disinfecting semi-critical items such as cuticle nippers, cuticle pushers, nail clippers, pedicure blade holder, metal foot paddle etc.
*Watch dates (do not use expired high level disinfectant from Nov 2022; operator is using the new bottle that has not expired - ok).
- Operator is using high level disinfectant full strength and was changing disinfectant during inspection. Implements are to be fully immersed - ok. Keep track of dates for changing disinfectant (use calendar). Note that a Health Canada DIN # should be on the label. Use as per label.
- Metal foot file uses disposable sanding strips that are single use (discarded after each use). Metal handle/base is washed and disinfected after each use (using high level disinfectant).
- Stainless steel (foot bath) bowl is cleaned and then sprayed with chlorine bleach in labelled spray bottle. Be careful using full strength bleach in a spray bottle as this could be dangerous for you!!
** For disinfecting foot bath after it has been cleaned, use intermediate level disinfection. If using chlorine bleach, make a fresh solution of 4 tsp (20mL) of plain domestic bleach in 4 cups (980mL) of water. Keep foot bath wet for 10 minutes, drain, and air dry.
- Absorbent items are discarded after use: absorbent files, buffers, and tissue used between toes are single use.
Esthetics:
- Lancets (needles) for pimple extraction are sterile single use lancets and disposed of into sharps container (sharps container available).
- Eyelash and brow tints are labelled "For Professional Use Only" (not fore re-sale) and are labeled for use around the eye - good.
- Tint mixing cups are stainless steel and cleaned after use. Disinfect after cleaning (can use the same disinfectant used for nail implements.
Waxing:
- High level disinfectant used for tweezers.
- Disposable spatulas, waxing strips, etc.
- Reviewed procedure for application of the wax.
**Do not dip spatula in wax twice on the same client - dispense wax into a single use amount or use new spatula for each application on client and discard. See above.
