Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance. Time spent includes office time.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Patches of vinyl were missing on top of the toy shelf, areas of drywall were exposed and there was a rip in the mesh on one baby gate. The manager informed CCFL that a new baby gate was on order although she would repair the current at until it arrived.
Corrective Action(s): Please make sure all areas of the facility are in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Weed killer solution and hedge clippers were stored on top of cubbies in the outside area. There is the potential that children could access these items.
Corrective Action(s): The items were removed during the inspection.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated November 18, 2021 there were seven children and two staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the Licensee and written off site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager.
