401 - Adequate handwashing stations not available for employees [s. 21(4)]
Observation: 1. Handsink near the front service area lacked liquid soap. Liquid soap dispenser was not affixed to the wall near this sink. Paper towels were not accessible as the paper towel dispenser was jammed. This handsink contained preparation utensils inside it.

2. Handsink in the back service area had a fly glue trap hanging in front of it, making it inconvenient to wash hands and dry hands properly.
Corrective Action(s): 1. Staff member removed the preparation utensils. Staff informed the Manager would purchase liquid soap and fix the paper towel dispenser at this handsink today. Re-install the wall-mounted liquid soap dispenser at this handsink in the front service area. In the interim, use the second handsink to wash hands. Ensure designated handsinks in accordance with the health approved floor plan remain accessible for handwashing purposes. Ensure to only rinse reparation utensils at the designated rinse sink.

2. Staff removed the fly glue trap to enable convenient access to paper towels at this handsink. Ensure to place the paper towel roll (currently sitting on the dispenser near this handsink) into the wall-mounted paper dispenser today.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Greater than 200 ppm chlorine sanitizer was available in the sanitizer spray bottle as the chlorine test strips were bleaching out.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure to use 100 ppm chlorine sanitizer to adequately sanitize surfaces and preventing any potential chemical contamination. Staff setup 100 ppm chlorine sanitizer (by mixing 1/2 teaspoon bleach per L of water) in the spray bottle.

Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Cardboard was being used to line a shelving unit in the upright cooler.
Corrective Action(s): Discontinue the use of cardboard liners since it is not made of easy to clean and impervious to moisture materials. Ensure all materials are impervious to moisture, easy to clean, durable, and non-toxic materials. Staff member removed the cardboard liner from the cooler.

Observation: In Operator's absence, staff member informed she does not hold valid FOODSAFE Level 1 or equivalent course training.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure staff are scheduled to ensure that at least one staff member on shift in the Operator's absence holds valid FOODSAFE Level 1 or equivalent course training. Ensure enough staff successfully complete a FOODSAFE Level 1 or equivalent course to meet this requirement; Correct within 1 month.

Comments

Second handsink was supplied with liquid soap, hot and cold running water, and single-use paper towels. Note: Place the paper towel roll into the dispenser today.
Refrigeration units were at or below 4 degrees C and were equipped with thermometers:
-Upright cooler was at 4 degrees C.
-Prep. cooler was at 0.9 degrees C (lower component) and 1.4 degrees C (top component).
Ice cream freezer temperature was satisfactory.
Ice machine was in a clean condition.
3-compartment sink was supplied with hot and cold running water. Sink plugs were available.
No signs of recent pest activity were evident at the time of inspection.
Dry goods were stored on shelving units in the back dry storage room.
Handsink was properly supplied in the customer washroom.
Permit to operate was posted in a conspicuous location.
