Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed:

· Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control
· Medication
· Nutrition and Food Services
· Program
· Records and Reporting

As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Previous Inspection - Not Applicable
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: 2 Fire extinguishers were observed with the service date of July 11, 2017. Licensee stated she will take them and get them serviced.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that equipment used to respond to an emergency according to the service date.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: Licensee stated she has created a daily schedule outlining the activities provided during the day but has not created an active play or screen use policy.
Corrective Action(s): Please create an active play and screen use policy according to the Director of Licensing Standard of Practice Active Play.

Comments

Licensee stated that they are currently not using the play area in the back yard due to animals digging up the grass. Licensee stated that they use the park located across the street and the play areas located at the elementary school.

The Licensee's first aid expires April 13, 2018. Please inform the Licensing Officer when the First Aid has been completed.
