Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Storage of a drain snake tool in the tub accessible to children, next to where the diaper change pad, and potty seat are stored. This promotes contamination of bacteria (corrected during inspection).
Storage of heater accessible to children in the playroom. Heater was not in use at the time of inspection. Licensee stated this will be moved to an area out of reach.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Floor tiles in the entryway showed wear, and cracks exposing the floorboards below. Licensee stated they have hired a person to complete the work.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Of seven files reviewed, one file was missing name and telephone number of an emergency contact.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to have a record showing the name and telephone number of the emergency contact for each child.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 8 children, one staff, one support staff, and the facility manger present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

Care Plans
Systems for checking staff references
Storage of children's bedding
Systems for identifying, repairing and replacing areas of wear and tear.
Routinely updating photos of children as they grow.
