Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the licensing officer’s observations, review of the facility records, and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed:
· Licensing
· Physical Facility
· Staffing
· Policies and Procedures
· Care and Supervision
· Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control
· Medication
· Nutrition and Food Services
· Program
· Records and Reporting
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection, and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation.
Visit the CCFL website at www.fraserhealth.ca/childcare for:

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: The Manager name was not posted in a prominent place. The staff discussed that it was taken down to refresh some items and will be replaced in the near future.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the name of the Manager is posted.
Date to be Corrected: April 26, 2018

MEDICATION: 16040 - CCLR s.53(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that a child's medication is not accessible to any child, except that a child may have access to his or her own medication if (b) the nature of the child's medication is such that, without immediate access to the medication by the child, the child's health will be significantly at risk.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Medication is stored in the fridge in an unlocked medication box. The children have regular and unsupervised access to the fridge for healthy snack items throughout the day. The key could not be located for this lock box and so the Manager moved the lock box to an inaccessible cupboard during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the children's medication is not accessible to the children.
