Introduction

A routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, Child Care Licensing Regulation and the applicable Director of Licensing Standards of Practice. In response to the current COVID 19 pandemic this inspection focused on equipment and furnishings, hygiene and communicable disease control and children's records. Licensing will conduct a follow up inspection to inspect the outdoor play area, staff records and physical facility.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: There is a set of cubbies located by the front door of the facility. These cubbies are over 4' and there is the potential for them to be tipped over and injuring an individual.

Corrective Action(s): Ensure the cubbies are secured to the wall. The Licensee said she would address this issue over the weekend.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed a small, blue vinyl covered chair located near the front entrance of the facility. This chair is ripped and sections are missing, exposing the foam. This item is now porous and is no longer cleanable.

Corrective Action(s): Replace or repair or remove the chair.

Comments

At the inspection dated July 30, 2020 there were 5 children and 1 staff present. The above noted contravention was identified during the inspection and any action required by the Licensee is included here. As part of this routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy will be provided.

Licensing reviewed with the Licensee their cleaning and sanitizing procedures and the implementation of the facility's sick policy. Upon arrival children are sanitizing their hands, take their shoes off and then washing their hands. Licensing recommended children wash their hands and there is no requirement for children to use hand sanitizer when they have access to running water to wash their hands. Licensing provided to and reviewed with the Licensee the Fraser Health Resource Package for Child Care Facilities COVID 19 Prevention.

The Licensee has not posted their WorkSafe COVID 19 safety plan. The Licensee will need to develop a plan and post it within the facility; please refer to the WorkSafe BC Child Care: Protocols for Returning to Operation for more information.

This inspection was reviewed with the Licensee at the time of the inspection. This report and the Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed off site (time spent .33 hours) and copies of these documents were sent to the Licensee.
