Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12152 - CCLR s.19(5)(b) - Despite this section, licensee may employ a person as a volunteer who does not provide care to children or supervise children if the licensee or the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation: A minimum of three character references were not obtained for two volunteers.

STAFFING: 12153 - CCLR s.19(5)(c) - Despite this section, licensee may employ a person as a volunteer who does not provide care to children or supervise children if the licensee or the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following (c) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: Immunization status was not obtained for two volunteers.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17120 - CCLR s.48(6) - A licensee must make available to parents information on the food and drink given to children.
Observation: A snack menu was not observed in the facility. In discussion the Licensee stated that she provides snack to the children but does not always communicate what snacks were given to the children's families.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to develop a system to share with families what food and drink is given to their children.

Comments

At the inspection dated April 23, 2024 there were 7 children, 1 staff and the Licensee was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by May 7, 2024, unless otherwise specified in this report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the Licensee.

The following was discussed with the Licensee:
· Reportable Incidents
· Lead in the Water
· Adding a triangular bandage to the first aid kit
· Adding more food and water to the emergency supplies and diapers
· Ensuring outdoor play equipment has a six foot fall radius

The following will be sent to the Licensee:
· Information for ECE Validation
· Policies and Procedures information

This report was reviewed with the Licensee during the inspection. This report was reviewed with the Licensee on the phone prior to completion. A copy of these documents were sent to the Licensee. If you have any questions regarding this report please contact me. A business card was provided.
