Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation: Licensing observed the staff files and noted that for one file, the character references were missing.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure character references are included in staff files (minimum 2 references for staff & 3 for the manager)

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing reviewed the children's files and observed that one child did not have their date of enrolment written on file.
Corrective Action(s): This was corrected during the inspection by the manager. Ensure that the date of enrolment of children are always included on file.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Licensing observed the children's files and noted that one child was missing their emergency contact.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure emergency contacts are included in the child's file.

Comments

*This is the first routine inspection of the facility since obtaining a licence.

At the inspection dated Sept. 16, 2022 there were 7 children and 2 staff present.The manager was also on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response. The contraventions noted in this report were reviewed with the manager during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following discussions were provided:
- Continue to document minor incidents using the incident log bound book, and take note of any illness and unexpected events involving children not requiring medical attention, and that are not reportable incidents as described in Schedule H, and staff to continue to initial and date after each documentation
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment

Business cards were provided during the inspection.
