Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Upon inspection there were 3 exposed outlets (powerbar) in the main play room.Licensee stated that she did not have a cover for the outlets and was trying to block them with the chair.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11160 - CCLR s.16(3)(a) - A licensee must ensure that the entire outdoor play area is (a) enclosed in a manner that is suitable for the age and development of children, and will ensure that children are free of harm.
Observation: Upon inspection of the backyard, there was a large gap under the gate that a child could go through.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the perimeter of the yard is enclosed, so the children are free from harm.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: Upon inspection of the outdoor play equipment, there were a couple broken pieces of equipment with sharp corners, that could pose a hazard to the children.
The play house outside was also coming apart which poses a fall hazard.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the outdoor equipment is free from hazards and is in good repair.

MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: Upon review of the medication forms, there were 2 separate days where the dosage amount and administration time was not specified by the parent.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the medication forms are filled out with times and dosage amount by the parent.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated January 30, 2020 there were 5 children and 1 staff present. Licensee stated that there are 8 children registered in the program. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee will provide Licensing with a written response. Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.
Discussion was had with the Licensee around active supervision inside/outside the facility and moving the vehicles located in the back yard.
Licensee stated that the vehicles are moved, when children are in the yard so the gate can close and lock also.
