Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the inspection the following was observed:
-A shelf over 4 feet was not secured
-One bottle of bleach and water was being used to disinfect the diaper mat and the tables. The potential for cross contamination was discussed with the Manager
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment for children is provided at all times.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed rust in the following areas:
-One of the support walls of the bathroom stall
-Several tricycles in the outdoor play area
Rust can present a potential health hazard.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

Comments

At the inspection dated May 11, 2023 there were 28 children, 8 staff, and the Manager was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by May 19, 2023 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Manager.

The following was discussed:
-The reportable incident reporting procedure.
-The current cleaning protocols that are in place
-Preventing lead in the water
-The maintenance plan for the facility
-Ensure items that are climbable are removed from the fence
-Ensure the first aid kit has an ice pack and a CPR mask
