Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing observed a lid of a children's marker in the play kitchen's sink. Licensing expressed concerns of the lid's potential to be a choking hazard. Manager removed the lid immediately and stated that children are doing art and the morning was busier than usual.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

Comments

At the inspection dated April 20, 2022 there were six children and Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.
The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by April 22, 2022 The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following were discussed with the Manager:
· Annual servicing of fire extinguisher
· Storage of outdoor garden hose to prevent access to children
· Licensing observed a visible opening on the upper fence of the outdoor retaining wall, showing the construction on the other side. Manager is going to come up with a plan to cover this opening.
· Sleeping equipment to be placed away from doorknobs.
· Maintaining children records
The inspection report was written off-site – details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the routine inspection report and risk assessment sent to manager via email on April 20, 2022.
