Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During inspection, one cabinet under the sink contained a bottle of cleaner which was accessible to children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: During review of the emergency evacuation kit, some food items had expired in January of 2021.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover form any emergency.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: 6 children's files reviewed did not contain immunization records.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep record of immunization for each child in care.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 19 children, the manager, and 1 staff were on site.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions

The following was discussed:
Completion of care plans as part of a plan to support children in care.
Licensing reviewed the storage of items, hygiene and sanitization in the facility.
Discussed the current BCCDC recommendations for mask use in facilities.
