Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations(CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of practice (DOLSOP). All areas were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed:
-Laminate flooring was chipped with damage in both GCC (under 36 month classroom), those areas were taped with packing tape, however edges of the tape were curling and insufficient to prevent tripping, and to effectively sanitize the area where children eat.
-Some wall damage where children have access to the drywall materials in the GCC (30m-SAC) classroom
-There was no system to ensure the fridge temperature is maintained below 4 degrees celsius at all times.
Corrective Action(s): The licensee said they have a plan to replace the flooring on two days in August, when the children will not be in care. They will provide a plan to prevent tripping with a mat in the short term.
-The licensee said they will provide a plan for addressing the areas of wall damage.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed staff supporting children using the in classroom sink, this sink was tested at 52. 5 degrees Celsius.
Corrective Action(s): The licensee turned off the hot water while licensee was on site.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, 55 children, 9 staff one support worker, one student and one licensee representative was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions. Licensing will review the written response.
As part of the routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool was completed, and a copy was provided to the facility along with the report. Copies of the inspection report and the Facility Risk Assessment Tool were reviewed, discussed and provided to the Licensee/Manager.
