Introduction

An unscheduled follow-up inspection was conducted to ensure compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP).
Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #LPEN-AVC2SM have been corrected except for those noted on supplementary pages.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12160 - CCLR s.20(1) - The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation: Criminal record checks from the RCMP were available today for persons ordinarily present. A discussion with the Licensee about criminal record checks being completed through the criminal records review board in Victoria. The Licensee stated that she has previously completed through this process but completed through RCMP this time. The Licensee stated that she will apply today for new criminal record checks through Victoria.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that criminal record checks for all persons 12 and over ordinarily present on the premise are obtained from the Criminal Records Review Board.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: The Licensee has not created an Active Play or Screen Use Policy. The Licensing Officer reviewed the Standard of Practice Active Play with the Licensee and discussed possibilities of what might be included in a policy.
Corrective Action(s): Please create and implement an active play and screen use policy as described in the Director of Licensing Standard of Practice Active Play. When created please send a copy to the Licensing Officer and inform the families.
