Introduction

An unscheduled Routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed:
-Storage of sunscreen and bug spray located accessible to children in care. (facility made these inaccessible during inspection).
-Blind cords in two classrooms, and two electrical cords were accessible to children in the classroom. (Corrected during inspection)
-A padded bumper located on a counter where hand washing occurs was broken exposing the foam inside, preventing effective sanitization of the surface. (Corrected during inspection).

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 23 children, 7 staff, and the facility manger present.
At this inspection the above noted contravention were identified. Licensee has corrected the identified contravention during the inspection.

The following was discussed:
Review of the BCCDC guidance for facility indoor and outdoor cleaning and sanitization, and labelling of cleaning products.
Discussed use of one use towels as part of the facility hygiene practices. Facility has hired a company to install a paper towel dispenser for the outdoor sinks.
Reviewed water table practice of dumping water after each use.
