Introduction

A scheduled follow up inspection to routine # LPEN-BNQPUH was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: one employee did not have a criminal record check.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that prior to employment you obtain a criminal record check for the person

CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14030 - CCLR s.34(2)(b) - Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation: It was confirmed by the Manager that one infant toddler program was not running with an infant toddler educator for more than 30 days and 2 infant toddler programs had an early childhood assistant working as the second staff in the room.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the ratio of employees to children attending is no less than permitted in Schedule E.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated August 27, 2020 there were 28 children and 7 staff present. At this inspection the above contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As a part of this inspection a Covid-19 Infection Control Assessment was completed and a copy is provided. This inspection was written off site and a copy was emailed to the facility.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Increased sanitization procedures
· Hygiene practices and procedures
· Staffing qualifications
· COVID-19 prevention strategies were reviewed and discussed.
