Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations(CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of practice (DOLSOP). All areas were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed the classroom television was stored on a shelf and was not secured, providing concern for falling on a child while playing in this area.
Corrective Action(s): The licensee corrected this after licensing identified the concern to the licensee.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The daily sign in sheet did not have record of all children who were in attendance during the inspection.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 15 children, two staff and the licensee present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions. Licensing will review the written response.
As part of the routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool was completed, and a copy was provided to the facility along with the report. Copies of the inspection report and the Facility Risk Assessment Tool were reviewed, discussed and provided to the Licensee/Manager.
