Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance with the exception of the off site play area.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection Licensing observed several bottles of medication in a drawer in the kitchen. The Licensee has a gate but this does not cover both sides of the kitchen. The drawer was easily accessible
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Licensing observed that the tag on the fire extinguisher was dated August 2021. The Licensee stated that the fire extinguisher was serviced but the tag was not updated. The fire extinguisher was within the area of fully charged. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-BG3PS2
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the fire extinguisher is serviced on an annual basis and the date of servicing is updated on the tag to document this occurred.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17010 - CCLR s.48(1)(a) - A licensee must (a) ensure that each child has healthy food and drink according to the Canada's Food Guide.
Observation: Licensing observed one of the children eating chips for morning snack. In discussion with the Licensee she stated that this is at the request of the family. Licensing requested to review documentation from the family. No documentation was available for review. The Licensee provides snacks and lunches to the children. Chips were not listed as the morning snack on the menu.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to provide each child with healthy food and drink according to the Canada's food guide.

Comments

At the inspection January 12, 2023 there were 2 children, and the Licensee was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by January 26, 2023 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Licensee.

The following was discussed during the inspection:
-The reportable incident reporting procedure.
-The current cleaning protocols that are in place
-Preventing lead in the water
-Items with a Drug identification number (DIN) were observed in the first aid kit. Written permission from a parent or guardian are required prior to application.
-Adding diapers to the emergency supplies
