Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: The name of the manager was not displayed in a prominent place within the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the name of the manager is displayed in a prominent place.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The outdoor play area had the following safety concerns identified during the inspection;
- sandboxes not regularly covered
- some debris and garbage observed on several outdoor play areas
The indoor programs had the following safety concerns identified during the inspection;
- bathroom stools require cleaning
- some carpets damaged posing a tripping hazard
- some fridges where good is stored requires cleaning
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: Fire drill records were reviewed during the inspection and several program had missed a few months of either recording or conducting fire drills.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure employees conduct and record monthly fire drills.

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17120 - CCLR s.48(6) - A licensee must make available to parents information on the food and drink given to children.
Observation: The program provides morning and afternoon snack to the children. The information of the food provided is not made available to the parents of the children in care. The LO reviewed this requirement with staff and the management team at the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure food or drink provided to children is made available to the parents.

Comments

On the inspection date of March 5, 2024 there were 61 children and 16 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee include a corrective action plan required to be submitted and actions required the LO include to review and monitor the corrective action plan. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. This inspection report was completed off site, reviewed with the manager and then emailed to the facility the following day.
