Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Upon inspection the following was observed:
- A staircase in the backyard that leads to the upstairs of the home did not have a railing along the bottom 6 stairs and is accessible to children.
- Heavy books on a tall floating shelf hanging over the edge above the area the children sit and have lunch
- Two devices with unsecured cords accessible to children
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Fire Extinguisher has not been serviced annually
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the Fire Extinguisher is serviced annually.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Upon inspection, there were 4 months when fire drills were not recorded. The Licensee explained the fire drills were not practiced during those months.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure there is a record respecting compliance with section 22(2)(b) and (c) with regards to emergency training and equipment.

Comments

At this inspection contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
