Introduction

A scheduled focused routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). Areas of the facility that were inspected for compliance were physical facility, care and supervision and health and hygiene.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13010 - CCLR s.22(1)(a) - A licensee must have all of the following: (a) emergency exits and a fire drill system approved by a local assistant within the meaning of the Fire Services Act.
Observation: Licensing observed that the fire extinguisher was last serviced in 2017. The Manager informed Licensing that it has been serviced recently but could not provide any evidence that it had been serviced.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that there are emergency exits and a fire drill system approved by a local assistant within the meaning of the Fire Services Act in place.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the focused routine inspection conducted today, May 13, 2020, there was one child and the Licensee present. The Risk Screening - COVID 19 form was completed prior to conducting the inspection. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Licensee is required to correct all identified non-compliances by the dates indicated above in the violations section. A written response is to be provided to Licensing on the date specified for Licensing to review that appropriate corrective action has been taken to address all identified non-compliances. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
COVID-19 prevention ; social distancing, cleaning and sanitization practices and hand washing
Screen time and outdoor play
Children's Emergency contact information; updated information
Rotating toys
Cleaning and sanitization schedule
Earthquake kit; suggestions provided on different bags to use for easy transportation of the kit. Licensing suggested having a system in place to maintain the emergency kit items.
Pick up and drop offs of children.

The inspection findings were reviewed with the Licensee at the time of the inspection. This report was written off site (.25 hrs.) due to Covid-19 pandemic, to help promote health and hygiene. A copy of this report and the risk assessment will be emailed to the facility.
