Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: The handwashing sink area in Infant room needs repair as the laminate is tearing and the surface underneath is soaking the water.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the fixtures in the classroom are in good repair while children are in attendance.

STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: Records for monthly fire drills were either missing or not maintained.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a system is in place to implement and record the fire drill system at least once a month and records are maintained.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated January 18, 2023 there were 55 children and 10 staff present. Licensing met with the manager. At this inspection, above noted contraventions were identified. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following was discussed or resources provided:
Active Supervision in nap room for Infants (Bulletin emailed). The nap room is across the hallway and staff are not fully paying attention to the audio monitor at all times as they are busy with other children. So keeping this in mind and in reference to the Active Supervision Bulletin, please submit a more robust plan for the supervision in the Infant Nap room.
