Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: During audit of all staff files, it was noted that one file did not contain a valid criminal record check letter from Victoria. Licensing noted the application form in the file, however no letter was present. Manager stated that it may be offsite, and is attempting to locate the valid letter.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all legislatively required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times

STAFFING: 12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: During audit of all staff files, it was noted that two files are missing immunization status documentation.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all legislatively required documenation is obtained and maintained at all times

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: An audit of approximately 50% of the children's registration files, and several are missing a medical practitioner name. It is recommended that the families share with the facility which medical clinic would be frequented when required, and have that information on the child's file

Comments

At the inspection dated November 19, 2019 there were 13 children and 5 staff present.
Coded violations were noted during today's inspection; please provide Licensing with a written response by November 20, 2019 as to how the coded violations have been suitably addressed.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Temporary Placements
· Lead in the Water
