Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: the following areas are in need of repair or replacement as the surfaces are no longer intact, the couch in the active room and the carpet in the IT room
Corrective Action(s): please ensure the carpet or the couch is replaced or repaired, or removed( the manager stated the carpet may be replaced by July.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: the water temp measure 54 degrees Celsius
Corrective Action(s): please ensure the water temp does not exceed 40 degrees Celsius

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11400 - DLSOP Safe Play Space (ground surfacing [b5]) - [bullet 5] A 1.8 metre (six feet) clearance around equipment is considered safest.
Observation: one piece of climbing equipment is placed very close to the fence , not enough fall area.
Corrective Action(s): please ensure the equipment is placed with enough area for a fall zone

STAFFING: 12120 - CCLR s.19(2)(c) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee is satisfied, based on the information available to the licensee under subsection (1) and the licensee's or, in the case of an employee who is not the manager, the manager's own observations on meeting the person, that the person (c) has the training and experience and demonstrates the skills necessary to carry out the duties assigned to the manager or employee.
Observation: validation for ECE and ECE assistance not available
Corrective Action(s): please ensure a system is developed that demonstrates current stafff files or a checklist

NUTRITION AND FOOD SERVICES: 17020 - CCLR s.48(1)(b) - A licensee must (b) promote healthy eating and nutritional habits.
Observation: the water bottles in all programs are stored so that they touch which is a possible transference of the bacteria/viruses.
Corrective Action(s): please ensure water bottles are stored so that they don't touch

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy provided.

Manager has proposed the use of the Mario room for an additional nap room please ensure that the burnaby Fire dept has no concerns with the use of this room and provide a supervision plan for this room
