Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed a baseboard heater in Toddler 2 program broken with the sharp pieces inside accessible to children
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times. Provide a written response how you will check programs environments for safety.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: Licensing observed all four sinks in classroom Casa 4 over the temperature of 49 degrees Celsius. The sinks measured at 64.9, 65, 65.5 and 59 degrees Celsius.
The hallway sink was measured at 60 degrees Celsius.
All sinks were accessible to children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that water is heated to no more than 49 degrees Celsius.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19230 - CCLR s.58(1)(c)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (c) the resources to be made available to the child requiring extra support by the licensee, including (i) any adaptation of the community care facility necessary to ensure the child's safety or comfort.
Observation: A child with a care plan had expired medication. A conversation was had with the Manager about ensuring the medication is current and not expired.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the resources for a child with a care plan are made available.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated March 3, 2021 there were 83 children and 24 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
