Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: One of the toy house was more than 4 feet tall and posing a risk of injury if it falls on a child. It needs to be secured.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to provide a healthy and safe environment for all children while in care.

MEDICATION: 16010 - CCLR s.53(1)(a) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (a) administered to the child in the amount and at the times specified by the child's parent or in the child's record or care plan.
Observation: Licensing observed medicine that was provided by the parent. However there was no record of instructions given by parent regarding amount and time of the medicine.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to maintain a documentation or records of a child's medication administration plan.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: Review of 5 children files observed 2 children were missing date of enrollment/Start date on file.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children files are complete.
Date to be Corrected: Oct. 17, 2022

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Review of 5 children files observed 2 children were missing contact name and phone number for their medical practitioner and emergency contact on file.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all children files are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated October 12, 2022 there were 2 children in attendance with the Manager.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Action required by the licensee includes providing a written response by October, 20 2022
Actions required by Licensing include reviewing the written response.
As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
