Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: The dishes in the multi age room are not being cleaned and sanitized using the 3 sink method or dishwasher to ensure effective sanitization
Corrective Action(s): Ensure to clean and sanitize dishes that children use in an appropriate and effective way

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: There was a table and a shelf in the multi age room that is showing signs of wear and tear; the paint is chipped in areas and this cannot be sanitized properly.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure eqiupment is in good repair

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: the hot water temperature at the sink in the infant/toddler washroom was above 49 degrees
Corrective Action(s): ensure any heated water accessible to children is not more than 49 degress celcius

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: A random review of children's files indicated that one child was missing the name and number of a doctor or medical clinic
Corrective Action(s): Ensure to have this information on file for each child

Comments

At the inspection dated Nov 26, 2021 there were 17 children and 6 staff present in all programs operating. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the Manager and written off site. A copy of the report will be emailed to the Manager.

The following education/recommendations were provided:

- having a thermometer in each fridge to monitor fridge temperature
- adding anti-slip stripping to the wooden step at the playground
- removing any expired documentation from staff files to help with organization
-Covid-19 prevention strategies were reviewed and discussed.
- When reporting a reportable incident, please ensure you directly notify a Licensing Officer within 24 hours. If you cannot reach your LO please contact the duty line @ 604 587 3936.
