Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations(CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of practice (DOLSOP). All areas were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: Both sink's temperature were measured at 49. 7 and 50.5 degrees Celsius.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee will provide corrective response on or before march 4, 2024

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: One file was on site, within the employee file there was not evidence the employee's early childhood educator certification was verified by the system maintained by the early childhood registry.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee said they will get this completed today. Licensing will provide a link for the licensee.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 6 children, one parent was visiting for some time and licensee present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions. Licensing will review the written response. As part of the routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool was completed, reviewed and provided to the licensee.
