Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing noticed that chalk paint on the bottom of the wall is chipping.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the chipped paint is fixed and the facility is in good repair.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19060 - CCLR s.57(1)(a)(b)(c) - A licensee must keep current records for each child showing (a) the information set out in subsection (2), (b) if applicable, the information and agreements set out in subsections (2.1) and (2.2), and (c) the consents referred to in subsection (3).
Observation: There were no records/registration forms for the new children who were present at the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that records are available and complete before the children start at the facility.
Date to be Corrected: Before the children are at the facility next.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Licensing observed that the before school age was not signed out in the morning. Children on gradual entry were not signed in on the attendance record.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a system is created to accurately reflect children in attendance to include times of arrival and departure and whether a child is absent or present or starting daycare and is on gradual entry.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: 1/6 children's records reviewed did not list names of an emergency contact
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children's registration information is complete with all required documentation including emergency contacts

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated June 29, 2022 there were 8 children and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed or education provided:
Registration forms for children on gradual entry.
Group sizes and employees to children ratios
Driving children in staff vehicles.
Signing out children and dropping them off at the I/T facility.
