Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories (except Staff Files) were inspected for compliance. Licensing will return to conduct a follow up inspection to review a random selection of staff files in the coming days.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR # have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following;

Infant Room Inside- Plastic bags stored in a low cabinet, without a lock in the children's washroom
Infant Room Outside- Rusty kitchen toys secured to the "playwall"
Multi- Age Room Inside- Diaper cream and spray airfreshner accessible to children as well as a high shelf (for lunch kits) that is not secured to the wall
30 months to School Age Room Inside- Plastic bags stored in a wall mounted holder inside the washroom (assessable to children)
as well as a high shelf (for lunch kits) not secured to the wall

Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a safe and healthy environment while children are in care.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:

At the inspection dated August 17, 2022 there were 21 children and 6 staff present.
At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified.
Action required by the licensee includes providing a written response by August 31, 2022.
Actions required by Licensing include reviewing the written response.

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.

The following discussions were had;

- BCDCD Guidelines are still being implemented
- Connecting with a Licensing Officer when reporting an incident –Duty Line 604-587-3936.

This report was written off site and a copy of both the report and Risk Assessment were emailed.
