Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation:
-An unsecured blind cord on the patio door, and an electrical cord for a music player located on the floor in the hallway, accessible to children, both providing risk of entanglement.
-Children's pool filled with water in the outdoor play area. Please ensure to dump any standing water after each use. Licensee said she would be dumping the pool at the end of the outdoor time today.

Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 4 children, and the facility licensee present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
Discussed the facility policies for recently purchased hot tub. Licensee will include the policy in the facility policies manual, and will include checking to ensure the hot tub is inaccessible to children as part of the regular outdoor checks. At the time of inspection the cover was on the hot tub with locks engaged.
