Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19140 - CCLR s.57(2)(h)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (h) any special instruction respecting the child's diet, medication, participation in a program of activities, or other matter relevant to the child's care, (i) given by the child's parent to the licensee in writing.
Observation: The facility maintains a list of children who have restricted food items although there is no information stating what the parents want staff to do if a child ingests the restricted item.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure parent instructions are posted for staff to follow.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated January 1, 2022 there were three children and two staff present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the manager and written off site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager. Time spent includes office time.
The following were discussed with the manager:
Areas of the outdoor play area fence and areas of paint work inside the facility are starting to show signs of wear and tear. The manager stated that these items will be reported to facility maintenance for review.
Corners of nap mats are starting to wear away. The manager will ensure the foam is not exposed so that mats can be adequately sanitized.
