Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed tape being used on the floor to secure social distancing cues on the floor. However, the tape has started to peel in some areas. This is a tripping hazard and cannot be thoroughly cleaned.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are in care.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing reviewed children's files and observed that one child's start date was not written on file.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the start date of the child is on file.

Comments

At the inspection dated Jan. 04, 2021 there were 15 children and 3 staff present.The manager also came on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response. The contraventions noted in this report were reviewed with the facility during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Reportable Incident procedures
- Continue to document minor incidents using the incident log book
- Continue to follow COVID-19 policy
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Hand hygiene procedures
- Snack time procedures
- Cleaning and storage procedures of beddings
- Daily outdoor play periods
- Cleaning and disinfection
- Precautions and practices for staff and children who become ill while at the facility
- Check the BCCDC website for updates
- Continue to check the expiry date of items in the emergency supplies kit

A business card was also provided to the facility.
