Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION):
-An unsecured electrical cord accessible to children where children play. This was placed out of reach of children during inspection.
-One electrical outlet in the bathroom and one electrical outlet in the children's play area were uncovered. Covers were replaced during inspection
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of a child.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Licensing reviewed five children's files, two files did not contain the name of the medical practitioner, and three did not contain the telephone number of the medical practitioner, and one file did not contain an emergency contact.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep for each child a record showing the medical practitioner's name and telephone number, and an emergency contact.

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 3 children, and the facility licensee present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed:
Discussed creating a system for checking and maintaining the emergency evacuation supplies to ensure the food and water are replenished before expiry.
Non reportable log book entries should contain full date, and initial of the licensee or staff when documenting items pertaining to the children in care.
Keeping children's records for two years after withdrawal from care.
