Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Toilet plunger present and easily accessible to the children in care
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure hazardous objects are stored inaccessible to the children in care

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: No evidence of practising and recording of fire drills
Corrective Action(s): Fire drills must be practised and recorded monthly

CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14030 - CCLR s.34(2)(b) - Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (b) the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation: 5 children in care; of those 5 children 3 under 24 months
Corrective Action(s): Ensure program is operating within legislative requirements of staff/child ratio at all times

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: Bar soap used by all children, and one cloth towel present in the children's washroom
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure safe health and hygiene practises are provided to children at all times

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Audit of 5 children's files 2 missing Dr name, telephone and emergency contact
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all legislatively required documentation is obtained and maintained at all times

Comments

At the inspection dated March 15, 2023 there were 5 children and 1 staff present.

At this inspection the above noted contravention were identified. The Licensee/Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed. For this inspection the contents of the Facility Inspection Report and Risk Assessment were discussed and provided to the Licensee and/or Manager while on site.
