Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: A selection of staff files were reviewed. Out of the 4 reviewed, 1 file did not contain a site specific criminal record check.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure criminal record checks are site specific.

STAFFING: 12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation: A selection of staff files were reviewed. Out of the 4 reviewed, 1 file contained references however they were not checked to ensure the individual is of good character.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure character references have been checked to ensure the individual is of good character.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated February 14, 2023, there were 19 children in care with 2 staff, the Manager, a Support Worker and a Practicum student.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Action required by the licensee includes providing a written response by February 21, 2023.
Actions required by Licensing include reviewing the written response.

The following education was provided:

Sign in/out process using App

As part of this Routine Inspection, a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was provided to the facility along with this report. The Risk Assessment includes any non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation and is used to determine inspection frequency.
