Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP. All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:
-Metal wire mesh covering the baseboard heater in the kitchen area was torn and the torn edges were curled in several areas.
-The door to the boiler room opened by itself while licensing was speaking to the manager. Manager stated that the child proof door lock to the boiler room door had recently broken.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the facility is in good repair while chldren are in attendance.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 22, 2021 there were 8 children and two staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.

The following were discussed with the manager:

· Accessibility and contents of the Earthquake Emergency Kit
· Diapering surfaces
· Safe storage of children’s milk bottles
· Reportable Incident procedures
· Maintaining children records
· Fire extinguisher due for renewal next month, February 2021

The inspection report was written off-site; details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the inspection report and risk assessment e-mailed to the Manager on January 22, 2021.
