Introduction

A modified scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). To support the care of essential service workers children in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the focus of this inspection will mainly be on the health & hygiene practices, the physical premise, and any potential high risk concerns. A risk screening tool was completed prior to conducting today’s inspection.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 11, 2020 there were 12 children and 4 staff present. At this inspection no contraventions were identified.

The following items were discussed with the senior supervisor while on site:

1. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the expectation is that only single use towels are being used. You are welcome to use cloth towels for hand drying however they must be single use. Options for single use towels were discussed while on site.

2. The facility has been in operation for more than 12 months time, however it would appear that the fire extinguisher needed to be serviced as of June 2020. Please make arrangements to have all fire extinguishers serviced, and contain a tag indicating their next service date. Options were discussed while on site.

3. When storing children's bedding, it is recommended that after each use the bedding used by the child be stored in a way that would prevent cross contamination, therefore leaving the bedding on the cots would not meet this requirement. Options for storage of bedding and hygiene control were discussed while on site. As well as cleaning practises of the cots was discussed while on site.

The contents of this inspection were discussed on-site, however the completion of the Facility Inspection Report, and corresponding Risk Assessment Tool were completed off-site and were sent to the Licensee/Manager via (email/mail).

The following resources were provided and reviewed at the time of this inspection:
· Resource Package For Child Care Facilities for COVID-19 Prevention
· Order of the Provincial Health Officer: Workplace COVID-19 Safety Plans
