Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Observed Violations
HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing observed one hand towel being used for the children in the 3-5 program to dry their hands with.

Staff stated that they had run out of paper towels.

During inspection staff put out more individual hand towels for children to use.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure individual, or paper towels, are used for each child when drying hands to help to prevent the spread of germs.

Comments

At the inspection dated Dec. 12/18 there were 23 children and 3 staff present in the 3-5 program, and, 18 children with 6 staff present in the toddler programs. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified and corrected during inspection.
During inspection Licensing discussed sanitizing/ disinfecting practices used at the facility, reminding staff to follow the manufacturers instructions for disinfecting, as noted on the wipes being used, as well as noting that vinegar and water cannot be used as a disinfectant in the facility as you cannot guarantee the acidity level in the vinegar which is purchased at stores.
During inspection Licensing observed children in the 3-5 program engaged in free play which consisted of free art; creating Christmas ornaments; Montessori activities.
During inspection Licensing observed children in the toddler programs engages in circle times, with music and movement, and then engaged in outdoor free play.
During inspection Licensing observed staff persons in all programs interacting with children while they were engaged in activities as well as assisting with problem solving when necessary.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
