Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Upon inspection the following was observed accessible to children:
- Cleaning products under the sink in the washroom
- Clorox wipes and bleach in the play area
The Manager explained how the facility cleans frequently and having the products close by makes it easier.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any objects or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: Upon review of staff records, two staff did not have certificate verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. The Manager explained that both staff have renewed their Certificate and that she was unaware this needs to be validated each time.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure certificates issued under Division 2 are verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry

Comments

At the inspection dated July 12, 2022 there were 7 children and 3 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee/Manager to provide Licensing with a written response with actions taken to bring facility into compliance. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool will be completed and a copy will be provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Discussion with Licensee regarding drapes in the nap room to be inaccessible to children.
· Maintenance procedure for grass in the outdoor play area
