Introduction

An unscheduled routineinspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
LICENSING: 10050 - CCLR s.11(1) - A licensee must display in a prominent place in the community care facility both the licence, including any terms or conditions of the licence, and the name of the manager.
Observation: Licensing observed that the name of the manager was not posted in a prominent place inside the facility.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the name of the manager is posted in a prominent place inside the facility.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed a long curtain panel touching the ground in the area where children are fed, which could potentially pose as a strangulation hazard, as the curtain panel was within reach of children.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the curtain panel is not within reach of children and a safe environment is provided at all times.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed a rotting wood board in the play area beside the stairs and another one was laying on the ground beside the outer wall of the house. These boards contain exposed nails, screws and metal pieces, which could potentially harm children while playing.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the facility's equipment and fixtures are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed that there was liquid soap stored under the sink in the cabinet, and the cabinet did not have a lock.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that children do not have access to objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health or safety.

Comments

At the inspection dated July 28, 2021 there were 4 children and 2 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

A COVID-19 Risk Screening was also completed.

A business card was provided to the facility.

The following discussion, education and recommendations were provided:
- Continue to follow COVID-19 Policy
- Continue sanitizing/cleaning of the facility including toys and equipment
- Hand washing procedures
- Increased indoor ventilation
- Supervision during outdoor play
- Removing products with a DIN number in the first aid kit
