Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Files for 10 children were reviewed. Emergency contact information was not available for 2 children.
Corrective Action(s): Please make sure emergency contact information is available for all children.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.
Observation: Files for 10 children were reviewed. A photograph was not available for 1 child.
Corrective Action(s): Please make sure a photograph is available for all children.

ADDITIONAL CCALA SECTIONS: 50080 - CCALA s.9(1)(b) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility for which their licence is issued is open at all times to visitation and inspection by the director of licensing or a medical health officer, who may (b) require the licensee to produce for inspection, or for the purpose of obtaining copies or extracts, the financial and other records of the community care facility that can reasonably be presumed to contain information relevant to the administration of this Act and the regulations.
Observation: A file for 1 child and emergency evacuation drill records were not available at this inspection. The Licensee stated she has these records but could not located them.
Corrective Action(s): Please make sure all facility records are available for inspection.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 22, 2020 there were 7 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will submit a written response to the Licensing Officer stating how they have addressed the contraventions.
The Licensing Officer reminded the Licensee that criminal record checks for herself and 1 family member expire in August. The renewal process was explained to the licensee.
